In Ed Cole's book, Courage, he describes what he calls "Project Timothy" which is his ministry's outreach to young men. Cole states that he began this project after God revealed to him that something was missing in his ministry to men. "What was bothering me had finally come to light," he said. "Especially in churches, young men in high school are called 'youths.' When entering college, they are referred to as 'young adults.'"
Jewish families begin readying a boy for manhood for four years prior to his Bar Mitzvah at age 13, when he is considered to be entering manhood. Yet in Christian circles they often are not considered 'men' until they are in their twenties and perhaps even married. So when a 'men's meeting' is announced, the young men stay home.
So Project Timothy began and at a group of almost 8,000 men who had gathered on a large university campus, Cole challenged them. "Are there no young men of high school or college age that have the guts or courage to do more than wallow around in the moral morass of mediocrity to which so many have sunk?
"Isn't there any young men anywhere who want to be a champion for God? Have they all succumbed to the world? Isn't there anyone anywhere who wants to stand up for God, admit that he wants to be a 'Manof God' and pay the price of championship by developing a godly character?
"If there is...." Before the statement could be finished, hundreds of young men leaped from their chairs and began to run for the front ... declaring their allegiance to Jesus Christ.
Exciting, isn't it? Yet, if you had been there how would yo have responded? Are you ready to step beyound your youthful self-gratifying self—to be another David, Joseph, Daniel, or Josiah—and be a MAN who stands for God?
If so, I challenge you with the words Paul wrote to Timothy. "Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers ... Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a WORKMAN that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." I Timothy 4:12, II Timothy 2:15
And if you are man enough, stand and be counted in the ranks of Godly Business MEN.
